I just have to vent a bit here.
So I've been playing FFXIV again after a short hiatus due to work restricting the amount of free time I had. It's been fun and all; trying to get through the story because the 2.0 patch being released in a week is going to raise the level cap and continue the main quest line. I'm at level 41 at the moment, and in order to continue the story I need to complete a dungeon called "The Stone Vigil".

Here's the thing with FFXIV. Dungeons take place in a separate, isolated area detached from the rest of the world. And in order to enter a dungeon you have to enter the "Duty Finder" - because in order to start the dungeon you need a party of two warriors, one healer and one tank (a tank is a strong player who deals the…

In preparation for Halloween this October, over the next four weeks I'm listing my favourite maniacs of the silver screen - the psychos, the killers and the monsters.
Last week was Frank N. Furter of Rocky Horror fame. This week is Disney's own psychopath, Judge Claude Frollo.

If there were ever a scary kid's movie villain, this guy is it. In fact, watching this movie again as an adult, I was probably more scared of Frollo than I was when I was a kid, purely because I understood everything so much better. He was no longer just the scary old Judge who hated Quasimodo for being ugly. He was a sadistic maniac who had violent sexual urges and emotionally tortured the disfigured boy he adopted after killing said boy's mother. For the record, yes, t…

Last week was Norman Bates, the titular Psycho. This week is the ever fabulous Doctor Frank N. Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It's not often that the main antagonist is also the main character. Although the credits list Brad as the hero and Janet as the heroine, it's really Frank N. Furter who steals the show. Frank N. Furter is the self-proclaimed "sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania". In this case, however, Transsexual is an alien planet in the galaxy known as Transvestite. Frank N. Furter (his name an obvious parody of Frankenstein) is the captain of t…

In preparation for Halloween this October, over the next four weeks I'm listing my favourite maniacs of the silver screen - the psychos, the killers and the monsters.
Last week was Jame Gumb from The Silence of the Lambs. This week's maniac is none other than the "Psycho", Norman Bates.

Psycho has become a pop-culture staple thanks to its famous shower scene where the shadowy silhouette of "mother" stabs Marion Crane to death about a quarter into the movie. It was, and still is, a very shocking scene - the audience were lead to believe that Marion was the main character and that she'd survive to return home and run away with her lover like they planned, living happily ever after. But in a single scene she's brutally murdered and it sets the e…

In preparation for Halloween this October, over the next four weeks I'm listing my favourite maniacs of the silver screen - the psychos, the killers and the monsters.
Without further ado, let's begin with number one: Jame Gumb...

When people think of The Silence of the Lambs they think of the iconic cannibalistic genius Hannibal Lecter, as portrayed by the amazing Anthony Hopkins. And yes, Mr. Hopkins did a terrific job at making Lecter so devoid of emotion, so far from human and a legitimately terrifying character. But for me, that's the issue - he felt like a character. From his over-the-top monologues with Agent Starling to his near-impossible escape from FBI confinement and the dramatic finale in which Lecter phones Clarice from a tropical …
